Installing

Everything you need to know, all explained

Uploading to Your Web Server

Of the entire contents, the only part you need to upload to your web server is the "cpmfetch" folder and its contents.

I highly recommend uploading this folder to inside your CPG folder. It is possible to install elsewhere, but for beginners this is easiest.

Do NOT upload the contents of the cpmfetch folder into your CPG folder; rather upload the whole "cpmfetch" folder into your CPG folder.

Follow these steps to perform the upload

  1. Use your file transfer program to upload the "cpmfetch" folder to inside your CPG folder.

  2. Make the ./cpmfetch/cpmfetch_config.php file writeable by the web server.

  3. Make the ./cpmfetch/tmp directory writeable by the web server.

  4. Make the ./cpmfetch/tmp/feed.xml writeable by the web server (Needed for RSS Feeds only).

You should now have a "cpmfetch" folder inside your CPG directory. What fun.

Run the install.php Program

You need to run the install.php program at least once, and typically when you upgrade CpmFetch or CPG.

When you run the installer it does these things:

  1. finds your CPG settings

  2. retrieves your CPG settings from the database

  3. calculates and schemes some new settings

  4. updates the cpmfetch_config.php file with your settings

To run the installer program, connect to it with your web browser at:

http://www.yourdomain.com/cpg/cpmfetch/install.php

Some of this URL will obviously be different depending on your web server.

When it finishes it will show you some photos from your gallery to prove it is working. It will also show you the exact PHP code it used to get them. This code is the same code (almost) that you will be inserting into your own pages.

It will also update the "cpmfetch_config.php" file in your cpmfetch folder.

If you get errors from the install, read the description of the error and see if it is something you can fix. If you missed a step above, it should tell you. If you installed the CpmFetch folder elsewhere, you will need to follow the additional step it prompts you for.

If you still cannot get it working (and this does happen on strangely configured web servers sometimes) see the section on getting help.

Installation Problems

The most common installation errors can be avoided by installing the "cpmfetch" folder into the CPG folder. If you installed it elsewhere without a good reason you will have little sympathy from me.

Other problems can arise because all web servers can be customized differently. If yours returns information that confuses the installer, it will not output the correct settings.

DO NOT PANIC

Follow the section on getting help. Reporting these issues is good for the project as since I can resolve them for future generations.
